Star Struck: Geminid Meteor Shower (All Ages)
Few events inspire awe and capture the imagination like the brilliant light show of a meteor shower. Take advantage of this self-guided viewing opportunity to experience the dark skies at Howard Marsh Metropark and enjoy one of the best and most reliable meteor showers of the year.
Bring a lawn chair and blankets and prepare to sit back and enjoy the show. The park is open between 9:00 pm and 11:00 pm to enjoy the shower, no registration required.
There is an optional free naturalist-led informational program from 9:30-10:00 pm meeting near the map kiosk. A naturalist will be on-site to answer questions for the entire viewing session. This is an open-house style program; viewers may come and go as they please during the designated time frame. A nearly full moon this year will unfortunately wash out the fainter meteors and interfere with viewing, but some bright meteors are still expected. This program location is accessible. Viewing can be accomplished from flat, gravel areas directly adjacent to the parking lot. For additional information or questions, please contact Amanda Domalski at 419-277-6276.
